International Scientific Conference “Culture and Traditions of the Camino de Santiago” has taken place

On April 22, 2022, the International Scientific Conference “Culture and Tradition of the Camino de Santiago” took place in Przeworsk (Poland). The conference is organized by the St. James Center at the Faculty of Theology of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, the Institute of Geography of the Pedagogical University in Krakow and the Department of Tourism of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

Under the Honorary Patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, Professor Markiyan Malsky, the European Parliament Deputy Dr. Bogdan Rzońca, Director of the Cervantes Institute Fernando Martinez-Vara de Rey de Iresabal, Podkarpackie Voivode Eva Leniart, Marshal of Podkarpackie region Władysław Ortyl, Archbishop of Przemyśl Archdiocese Adam Shall and others the conference was held.

The participants of the International Scientific Conference “Culture and Tradition of Camino de Santiago” were representatives of the Department of Tourism – Head of the Department, Professor Marta Malska, Associate Professors Pavlo Romaniv, Andriy Man’ko, Oresta Bordun and Senior Lecturer Yurii Zin’ko.

It should be noted that the Department of Tourism has been participating in international events dedicated to the development of the historical and cultural Road of St. James Via Regia for ten years. In particular, in 2015, the staff of the Department of Tourism marked the Ukrainian section of the world cultural road Lviv – Shehyni. This initiative offered tourists from all over the world the opportunity to start their trips from Lviv to Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

At the same time, at the Department of Tourism at the Faculty of Geography of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv a culture center “Lviv Way of St. James Via Regia” was established. The Academic accreditation in the “Campus Stella” program took place, which let the Department and the University join fully the scientific institutions that promote the Way of St. James Via Regia in the world.
