One of the most outstanding sociological forums of Ukraine was launched at Lviv University

On October 13, 2016, X anniversary sociological forum Variability in Social Spaces through Sociological Optics: Manifestations, Contexts and Possibilities was held at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

During the opening of the forum, Natalia Chernysh, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Honored worker of science and technique of Ukraine, Honoured Professor at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Professor, Chairperson of the  Department of Sociology of the Faculty of History, noted the vast geographic diversity of the participants, as the event was attended by scientists from different parts of Ukraine – Lviv, Kyiv, Rivne, Dubno, Zaporizhzhya, Uzhgorod, Odesa, Ternopil, Dniepro, Chernivtsi, Drohobych, Mariupol, Poltava and Kryvyi Rih.

“It is worth noting that  among other sciences, sociology is not only in  great demand, but it also finds credence in society. Therefore, sociological forum at Lviv University is a great opportunity to talk about sociology, the place of science and practice in modern society as an instrument for the measurement of various sections of the society development, ” said the Rector in his welcome speech.

According to him, the participation of sociologists in such an outstanding forum is the evidence that “they work not only for Ukraine and the development of her science, but also for the formation of an objective assessment of the processes that occur in our state.”

A welcome speech was given by Vil Bakirov, the President of the Sociological Association, Rector of N.V.Karazin Kharkiv National University. Vil Savbanovych noted the wide range of problems and issues brought up for the discussion within a sociological forum and pointed out the innovative format of the event. “We have before us the whole panorama of the Ukrainian sociological thought. Consequently, being socialogists , we need to realize the responsibility for the fate of our state. Undoubtedly, you can rely on the results of other specialists, however, you cannot ignore the sociological thought. Only Ukrainians can take charge of their state, relying on sociological findings, conclusions, ideas, speeches and interviews,” said Vil Bakirov.

This year in the framework of the X anniversary sociological forum in the format of discussion platforms, the participants discussed the issues of the dialectics of global changes in the light of theoretical and empirical sociology, and outlined the trajectory of socio-cultural and institutional dynamics of the modern Ukrainian society.

Moreover, sociologists took part in the round table discussion on the theme Historical Memory and Behavioral Repertoire in the Modern Ukrainian Society and the Talk panel Sociology and Agendasetting in Ukraine.
