Under Order No. 1559 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, dated 14 September 2026, “On Awarding the Academic Scholarship of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for Gifted Students with Disabilities for the 2026/2027 Academic Year,” Tamila Koval, a second-year master’s student in Journalism at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, was named among the scholarship recipients.
Tamila shared her thoughts on the scholarship: “I am delighted to receive the Academic Scholarship of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for Gifted Students with Disabilities as I approach the end of my master’s studies. This kind of support from the state is extremely important. As a blind student, for example, I sometimes have to spend additional money on making study materials accessible, as not all digital content is compatible with screen readers by default.
This award is a tremendous motivation for me to keep improving, grow professionally as a journalist, combine research with practical work, and take part in new projects both at the University and beyond. I am immensely grateful to the staff of the Faculty of Journalism and the University as a whole, not only for nominating me, but also for recognising and appreciating students’ achievements. I have to admit, it still feels a little surreal to see my name in the scholarship award order. I had to read it several times before I could quite believe it, but I was absolutely thrilled by the news!
Such recognition not only provides financial support to students with disabilities but also encourages them to be more persistent and determined and to feel more confident in putting forward their own initiatives to make higher education more inclusive. It can also be a powerful source of motivation for prospective students with disabilities, encouraging them not to be afraid to apply to university and pursue the career they have always dreamed of.”
