On September 15, 2017, in the Mirror Hall of the Pototskyi Palace, the Department of Intercultural Communication and Translation of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv presented its next edition: the German-language literary guide to Lviv “Lwiw. Literarischer Reiseführer”. The author of the concept, the compiler and the publisher of the book is the Head of the Department, Professor Alla Paslawska. The second co-editor is a former employee of the Department and lecturer of the Austrian Academic Exchange Service Tobias Vogel.

The book introduces the reader to literary texts describing or mentioning Lviv, in particular its architecture, people, atmosphere. These are works by Ukrainian, German, Polish, Jewish writers, most of which were translated into German for the first time for this publication. So we can go on a journey to the literary Lviv and experience those emotions that the authors of texts contained in the publication felt.

Traditionally, the editions of the Department are the result of cooperation between teachers and students: more than a dozen translations from Ukrainian and Polish into German have been made by students. Students have also searched for the texts, as well as collected factual information.

The publication is an excellent example of cooperation of our colleagues and colleagues from abroad: in addition to the staff of the Department, five native speakers worked on the texts.

The publishers and translation staff express their sincere gratitude to the Austrian Academic Exchange Service in Lviv, personally, to its Chairman Andreas Wenninger for the financial support of the publication. We thank VNTL-CLASSIK Publishing House director Volodymyr Dmyterko for the opportunity to publish and designer Oleg Dyachko for graphic design, as well as to all authors of texts and image owners for the right to publish them. And our readers will enjoy pleasant walks to literary (and not only) Lviv!
