SCIENTISTS FROM FIVE COUNTRIES TAKE PART IN “CHEMICAL READINGS, LVIV-2017”

XVI-th Conference “Lviv Chemical Readings” started in the Assembly Hall of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv on May 29, 2017. As part of the conference lasting for three days, scientists from Ukraine, the United States, Germany, Poland and Russia are going to discuss key issues of modern chemistry and its interaction with other disciplines.

During the opening ceremony of a scientific meeting the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University, Professor Yaroslav Kalychak said that the Conference is multidisciplinary and its work aims at exchanging experience on the latest trends in the development of chemical science. The Dean also told that this year’s event is dedicated to the memory of Oksana Bodak, Professor Emeritus of the University, who was outstanding researcher in crystal chemistry, the laws of intermetallic compounds, phase equilibria diagrams and others.

During a welcoming speech the Rector of the University Professor Volodymyr Melnyk emphasized a valuable role in the chemistry of the University as a whole.

“Ivan Franko National University of Lviv is always open for discussion and research. It is impossible to talk about the European path of Ukraine as an independent individual, strong state without fundamental research and current scientific developments”, said the Rector, adding that a truly powerful country must be an active participant in the global scientific discourse.

Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Vice-Rector of the University, Professor Roman Gladyshevskii stressed that the program of the Conference suggests a wide range of research in chemistry and added that it has become an inherent part of the development of chemistry in Lviv University.

The Vice-Rector also told the participants about the history of chemistry at Lviv University. Speaking about the current state of chemistry at the University, Roman Gladyshevskii said that its scientists always try to follow the leading trends in scientific research, are open for cooperation and rally adherents round themselves, whose work is focused on the development of scientific and educational environment in Ukraine and the world.

During the plenary session the participants discussed the relevance of scientific achievements of Professor Oksana Bodak and presented reports on important problems of chemical science.

Later, the Conference continued to work in the format of sessions in which leading scientists considered the most important modern researches in chemistry.
