The international professional development program “English-language academic communication in a cross-cultural Context” was completed at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv

At the beginning of June 2023, the International Professional Development Program «English-language Academic Communication in the Cross-cultural Context», was implemented by the Center for English-language Academic and Cross-Cultural Communication in cooperation with the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the University and European partners from Great Britain and Poland. The program took place within the framework of the grant project “Educational Bridge Chemnitz – Lviv” with the support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science of Germany.

This year, the participants of the program were representatives of 19 faculties of the University, as well as professors of other higher education institutions of the country, in particular Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv and Vinnytsia universities, as well as the Lviv Academy of Arts. The training was conducted in English, took place in a distance format and consisted of four thematic modules.

The ceremonial academy on the occasion of the awarding of certificates was held with the participation of the University administration, international guests, lecturers and program participants. It was started by the Vice-Rector for Research, Teaching and International Cooperation Serhiy Riznyk, who emphasized the expansion of opportunities for establishing academic communication for scientific-pedagogical workers of the Lviv National University thanks to this program because educational diplomacy plays a major role in the strategy of this university.

The participants of the program were also congratulated on the successful completion of the program by guests of the academy – the management of the Cormack Consultancy Group, a large-scale international corporation that develops strategies for the internationalization of universities and is currently actively implementing twinning programs between Ukrainian and British universities. The director of the corporation, Dr Aziz Bousofian, outlined the key trajectories of the implementation of academic partnerships, described the role, tactics and specificity of English-language communication in these processes and congratulated the participants on the excellent completion of such a necessary program.

Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Lyubomyr Borakovskiy emphasized the innovative approach and strategic value of the program for the university community and wished the organizers to develop this program in the future with the possible involvement of a larger number of participants throughout Ukraine.

The head of the Center for English-speaking Academic and cross-cultural communication and the project coordinator, Iryna Odrekhivska, thanked the participants for their active work and cooperation and also noted that this is the second time the Center has implemented such a training program, and this year the organizers received more than two hundred applications for participation but were forced to limit the number up to forty participants.

The participants of the program noted the high level of preparation and implementation of the program, and especially the professionalism of the Ukrainian and international lecturers.

“This program not only provides an opportunity to listen to intensive courses with sessions and homework but also creates a space for communication between representatives of different faculties and even universities. Even in the format of online education, we were able to create a real community and organize high-quality communication between participants, which additionally allowed us to get to know each other better and exchange scientific interests,” emphasized the participant of the program, candidate of legal sciences, assistant professor of the Department of Theory and Philosophy of Law of Lviv University Nataliya Gunko.
