Financial mechanism of development of media enterprises in Ukraine

Annotation

The dissertation is about theory and methodology, as well as practical aspects of
shaping a financial mechanism for the development of media companies in Ukraine’s
economy in the context of increased globalization impact.
Chapter One on “Theory for Research of Financial Operations of Media
Companies in Market Economy” covers peculiarities of financial activities of media
organizations, and identifies sources for their financial support; the essence of a
financial mechanism for the development of media companies is explored, and the
structure is represented, as well as international experience and current funding trends.
The relevance is justified for the financial provision of economic development of
media companies to understand the economic relations emerging due to search,
engagement and efficient use of financial resources in order to cover its operational,
investment, and other costs. Media business operators mobilize the financial resources
from their own funds (statutory capital, undistributed profits), loans (bank credits and
issue of bonds), and attracted sources (accounts payable, sponsor contributions). It has
been clarified that in the process of developing financial policy and its successful
implementation, a financial mechanism is employed which is an element of
management and regulation of economic relations.
Chapter Two on “Financial Mechanism in Operations of Media Companies in
Ukraine” analyzed the financial operations of media companies in Ukraine, identified
the sequence of processes of capital management in media organizations; peculiarities
of financial planning are characterized; stability of functioning of a domestic media
market is assessed in the current economic conditions.
It is justified that the capital management policy for a media company shall be
shaped in terms of the following peculiarities: financing of fixed assets and liquid
assets, intangible assets; engagement of own and loan financial resources, identifying a
need for monetary items to shape the non-current and current assets. The efficiently
established financial planning process at a media company with the help of budgeting
will help provide for sustainable operations and consolidation of a financial standing. In
the conditions of developing financial budgets, it is reasonable to use the economic-
mathematical methods to forecast the demand, prices, profitability level, and boundaries
of safe functioning of a media company.
Chapter Three on “Strategic Areas of Funding for the Growth of Media
Companies in National Economy” substantiates the impact of activities of media
companies on the dynamics of national economy indicators. The ways to improve
financial provision for operations of national media companies were suggested; a
concept has been designed for the development management of media companies in
Ukraine.
The paper proved that for the development of Ukrainian mass media in line with
the European standards, it would make sense to provide for the following: the growth of
advertising market, engagement of sufficient amount of investment, transparency of
funding, the increase in the professional level of journalists, the raising of a cultural
level of consumers, the development of democracy and the freedom of speech,
independence from oligarchs, combatting corruption, reduction of interference from the
government, increase of budget funding.
The dissertation developed a concept for financial development management of
media companies in Ukraine. It incorporates a goal and key objectives specified on
microeconomic and macroeconomic levels. The suggested concept identifies the
sequences in financial management of media companies, justifies the areas of
governmental financial support to domestic media business, and describes the principles
and expected outcomes from its incorporation.
The social aspects of the process for providing for financial stability have been
studied. It offers grounds to claim that the improvement of financial management
system aims at raising the quality of domestic media products, at enhancing efficiency
of operations of media organizations, at creating favourbale investment climate in media
field, at financial incentivization in the development of socially important programs and
projects, and at providing for the high level of information security in Ukraine.
