Annotation

In the thesis, following on from the published and archive materials
(including – foreign – National Archive in Vienna, Vienna University
Archive), periodicals, memories, native and foreign historiography there
highlighted political, scientific, scientific-promotional and publishing
activity of Ostap Terletskyy.
The thesis covers the whole process of O.Terletskyy’s world view
developing that took place in a family circle, Stanislav Gymnasia, Lviv
and Vienna Universities. There shown that public and political life of
O.Terletskyy started as early as during the gymnasia period, when he took
place in organizing a local community – youth structure which was engaged
in enlightenment activity. Later he joined the publishing of a newspaper
«Zirka» and participated in the fi rst political meetings. He continued the
social activity in Lviv university, where he studied in the Department of
Law and Philosophy. The next stage of his political work was Vienna Youth
Society «Sich». The young politician evolves from the «commons» and
enters into socialist clubs in Vienna and Lviv, that caused legal prosecution,
arrest and detention in 1887-1888. The thesis shows moving of O.Terletskyy
in the 1890s to Ruthenian-Ukrainian Radical party and infl uence upon him
of M.Dragomanov, I.Franko, M.Pavlyk, etc.
Publishing activity of O.Terletskyy is described in the thesis separately.
In the course of this activity he established bonds with progressive national
activists of Naddnieper Ukraine.
There were analyzed scientific works of O.Terletskyy, which were
dedicated to theoretical-economical and social problems. Also there was
noted that the main research problem of the scientist became literature and
literary criticism. Especial part in the research was committed to promotional
writing and its public context.
The thesis includes analysis of theoretical and legal views of
O.Terletskyy and demonstrates his activity as a legal expert and a lawyer.
