The Ivan Franko National University of Lviv summarized the work of the traditional English-language artificial intelligence summer school “Artificial intelligence summer school” 2023

In the era of modern technologies, we are all concerned about the threat and advantages of artificial intelligence, an adaptation of AI to the needs of students, teachers and representatives of various professions, maintaining academic integrity in the age of AI, and legal regulation of its use. All these and even more questions were discussed today, July 7, during the fruitful discussion “Artificial intelligence: its impact on life and the future”, which became the final chord of the third traditional English-language school “Artificial intelligence summer school” 2023.

The participants of the round table were people from different fields of interest but who were united by a common desire to help modern people understand “what” or “who” artificial intelligence is for us and what to expect from it shortly. It was:

  • Vitaly Kuharskyi, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Informatization, of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor of the department of applied mathematics;
  • Volodymyr Begei, responsible for the direction of artificial intelligence in the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine;
  • Bohdan Pavlyshenko, doctor of technical sciences, professor of the Department of system design of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv;

It is worth adding that training at AIT 2023 lasted two weeks, and more than 600 pupils and students have been interested in modern technologies and innovations and sought to develop in this field and took part in it. The implementation of the project was supported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Lviv Regional Military Administration and 20 companies, among which N-iX, GlobalLogic, Eleks, SQUAD, NeuroForge, groupXS, Brainstack, Infopulse, MindCraft.ai, EPAM became official partners. ; participants are Boosta, Intellias, Kindgeek, Sigma Software, Іndeema, SoftServe, Leopolis Group; information partners – Marketer.ua, ApiX-Drive, Lviv IT Cluster.

In his speech about the work of the School, Roman Shuvar, professor of the Department of System Design of the Faculty of Electronics and Computer Technologies, whose idea was the starting point for this project three years ago, concluded: “First of all, I want to thank our students, participants of the school, for your activity in the lectures and the desire to reach new heights. I also want to express my gratitude to our partners, the leading IT companies of Ukraine and Europe, because without their aid it would be much more difficult to implement such a rich and meaningful program for our youth. And, of course, I want to thank all the speakers who put a lot of effort into making the classes for our students very interesting, practical, and full of innovative information and also gave them an impetus for development in this difficult time for our state. I cannot fail to mention the work of the University team, which tried its best to ensure that these two weeks passed harmoniously and organized. I wish all of us a speedy victory over the enemy and new joint projects that are ahead.”

It is also pleasing that our participants are ready to share their impressions of participating in the program. Gatala Olena, a 2nd-year student of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, the educational program “Computer Science”, said: “I decided to visit this school because the topic of artificial intelligence is interesting and very relevant today. The lectures and workshops were extremely informative I especially liked the class on quantum computers because this is a completely new topic for me. I did not expect that it is so complicated and related to physics, but at the same time extremely interesting. In general, I have only positive impressions of this school. It is very cool that here we pumped both hard skills and knowledge of the English language. The fact that our classes were in English is a challenge and, unequivocally, an advantage because as future IT specialists, we need to communicate in this language at an excellent level.”

Such feedback inspires us to new endeavours, so we would like to announce that our school does not end at today’s meeting because, throughout the summer vacation, participants will have the opportunity to work on team projects together with specialist mentors to show their results to industry specialists in October and teachers of Lviv University. So we wish everyone fruitful work and say: “See you in the next school season at AIT 2024!”.
