The Rectors of Lviv and Pomeranian Universities discussed prospects for increasing cooperation

June 29, 2016 Professor Roman Drozd (Rector of Pomeranian University in Slupsk) and Marek Melnyk (Professor of the department of axiological foundations of education at Warmia and Mazury University in Olsztyn) visited Lviv University, where they met the Rector, Professor Volodymyr Melnyk, Maria Zubrytska (Vice-rector for research and teaching and international cooperation), Roman Shust (professor, Dean of the Faculty of History).

Both sides discussed prospects for increasing cooperation between universities, focusing mainly on the issues of double diplomas, academic mobility, students’ exchanges, teachers’ trainings, and work on joint scientific and educational projects.

Rector Volodymyr Melnyk said that the established Ukrainian-Polish intercultural communication stimulates the creation of projects cooperating with teachers and students, young and experienced researchers of both universities.

“To have successful and effective cooperation, it must be symmetrical,” said Vice-rector Maria Zubrytska.

Rector Roman Drozd said that the Pomeranian University in Slupsk actively cooperates with Ukrainian educational institutions. “We have signed 20 contracts with Ukrainian universities. We strive to have effective agreements, “- he said and thanked the Ukrainian colleagues for active cooperation between Pomeranian and Lviv Universities and hoped for its further continuation in the future.

It’s worth mentioning that the Rector of the Pomeranian University in Slupsk, Professor Roman Drozd is the only rector in Poland of Ukrainian origin. He is an active member of Ukrainian-Polish dialogue. The researches by Professor Roman Drozd are dedicated to Ukrainian minority in Poland in the 20th – 21st centuries and Polish-Ukrainian relations of the same period. He is the author and co-author of dozens of books and over one hundred scientific papers published in Poland, Ukraine and the United States.

The agreement on cooperation between Lviv University and Pomeranian University in Slupsk and the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn was signed in 2015.
