Information on the thesis

The dissertation work is dedicated to the analysis and evaluation of the balneological
resorts of Lviv oblast from ecology-geographical point of view. The data required for the
analysis and evaluation were got as a result of forming ecological passports for every resort.
Their structure was improved according to the specific character of balneological resorts.
The ecological passport of balneological resort consists of six sections and includes more
than 50 indicators, that take into account  general information about resorts; their natural
conditions;  availability,  diversity,  chemical  composition,  stocks  and  consumption  of
balneological resources; anthropogenic influence; environmental monitoring and measures
of nature protection.
The analysis reveals that balneological resort of Lviv’s oblast, located in the cities of
Truskavets, Morshyn, urban-type settlements Skhidnytsia, Shklo, Velykyi Lubin, Nemyriv
and the village Rozluch, possess favorable conditions for balneotherapy. The resorts have
vast reserves of various balneological resources, consumption rates of which vary between
<1%–40%. Thus they can fully meet the growing needs of the use of these resources.
There are certain problems in the resorts operation which can have negative effect on
their development and future existence. These problems are connected with the environment
condition and enhanced by the large anthropogenic transformation. Problems observed in
all balneological resorts and their reasons depend on peculiarities of natural environment,
resort location, size, development level and other factors. Environmental problems are often
complemented and caused by infrastructure problems, especially in resorts located in towns
and villages. Lack of suitable environmental programs at half number of the resorts reduces
informational support and reacting speed for resolving identified problems.
Essential advantages and threats in the resorts operation were determined on the basis
of the accomplished ecology-geographical analysis of the resorts’ considerable advantages,
that  assist  their  development  and  threats  that  can  impede  or  lead  to  deterioration  of  the
environment  quality.  Received  advantages  and  threats  are  grouped  into  three  levels  of
evaluation by the status of the settlement where resorts located and their investigation depth
that  reflect  current  ecology-geographical  situation.  Based  on  the  obtained  results,  the
recommendations  for  its  improvement  and  elimination  of  the  identified  threats  were
developed.  Recommendation  suggested  both  for  all  balneological  resorts  and  for  every
balneological resorts of Lviv oblast in particular.
