Annotation

The Second World War was abroad so that, on the one hand, it opened new
perspectives,  and  on  the  other,  it  revealed  significant  gaps  and  loss  of  Polish
Autocephalous  Orthodox  Church.  Starting  next  stage  of  its  development  in  the
realities  of  communist  rule,  the  Church  found  itself  under  the  protection  of  the
Moscow Patriarchate and thus influenced by the ideology of the USSR. Within the
current legislation of Poland, the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church folder is the
official legitimate religious organization that currently regulates a number of special
normative  acts.  The  rights  of  believers  belong  to  the  Orthodox  denomination  as
guaranteed  by  the  Constitution.  Public  authorities  can  exercise  control  over  sacred
objects to prevent crimes or in cases of direct appeals of citizens.
The specificity of the supervision of institutions that had contact with society,
during of the People’s Republic of Poland the commissioning differ. The Basic Law
guaranteed  citizens  the  right  to  practice  any  sanctioned,  religion,  and  additional
resolution is limited in practice. Any business, financial or spiritual nature, needed
the  consent  of  the  Government  of  religion.  Even  the  Metropolitan  had  so  much
authority as inspectors on religious issues.
Geographically  the  Polish  Autocephalous  Orthodox  Church  distributed
throughout Poland, but not evenly represented. In the eastern part, where there is a
significant concentration of Ukrainian and Belarusian diaspora, more churches were
built. They are not far apart, the number of parishioners can serve the sanctuary, and
keep your priest.

under protection of the hierarch heading the diocese. Because, the Orthodox Church
system is based on a clear consistent structure, where the largest church unit provides
supervision  and  protection  of  everyone  who  comes  to  the  church.  This  process
happens through the mediation the other Church structures responsible for the certain
area of life of the Church.
One  of  the  biggest  challenges  folder  after  World  War  II  was  a  shortage  of
qualified clergy. Clerics found themselves the victims of military action, repressive
measures,  deportations,  difficult  life  situations  (when  changing  profession  or
confession). As a result of these adverse factors  – many parishes were left without
superiors.
The  printed  word  has  always  been  among  the  most  common  tools  of  the

History  of  the  Polish  Autocephalous  Orthodox  Church  is  a  complex  process
that was in constant political and church symbiosis. Expanding the most important
areas of life becomes  clear not only  confessional  situation in post-war  Poland, but
also  the  circumstances  in  which  found  itself  Ukrainian,  Russian  and  Belarusian
diaspora in the period of communist rule.
The Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church is a proper component of social
and political life of the state. The number of believers and their deployment in Poland
after the Second World War and deportations required the reorganization of diocesan
parish network.
