Periodicals of the publishing concern «Ukrayinska Presa» in the context of West Ukrainian journalism

In the dissertation for the first time in history of the Ukrainian journalism
peculiarities of publishing periodicals of the concern «Ukrayinska Presa» [«The
Ukrainian Press»], whose activities were initiated and organized in the interwar
Galicia by the publisher and editor I. Tyktor, have been comprehensively
examined. A retrospective of foundation and development of the periodicals,
conditions of their appearance, objectives, structure, architectonics, content have
been studied and a circle of editors, journalists, authors of these periodicals has
been established. An experience of publishing main press publication of the concern — the
newspaper «Novyi Chas» [«New Time»], its multifaceted information and
publicistic content, main problems and topics have been studied, analyzed
and made relevant. The changes which took place in the editorial policy after
transformation of the newspaper’s appearance to a daily have been ascertained,
a complex of measures undertaken by the editorship for improving formal and
content structures of the periodical has been analyzed, editorial instruments aimed
at attraction of a readership, usage of advertising texts for securing financial
stability and independence of «Novyi Chas» from socio-political or any other
structures have been characterized. A contribution of this and other periodicals
of the publishing concern in educating nationally conscious readership and
development of West Ukrainian journalism in general has been evaluated.
