Annotation

The Thesis deals with comprehensive research of phraseological innovations (set phrases
with deviations from phraseological norm, set in authoritative lexicographic sources, found in
their structure, semantics and / or context) in modern Polish prosaic texts. Analyzed materials
consist of 36 works (originally published during the period between 2000 and 2010) by 10
Polish writers.
Phraseological  innovations  were  considered  applying  two  approaches:  structural-
semantic and functional-pragmatic. The author outlined common patterns of phraseological
form and/or context transition, such as increase of component number, replacement of one or
several components, phraseological derivation, phraseological contamination, phraseological
periphrasis, double actualization, phraseological metaphor, lexical and semantic collocation
broadening  of  set  phrases;  various  ways  of  realization  of  these  patterns  were  described  in
detail.  The  degree  of  impact  of  innovative  transition  upon  the  phraseological  unit  was
assessed taking into consideration its three aspects: significative, denotative and connotative.
Functions  and  pragmatic  potential  of  phraseological  innovations  in  the  fictional  text  were
defined.  Frequency  of  innovative  phrases  usage  was  calculated  and  prevalent  types  of
phraseological innovations were defined for each writer’s texts.
Keywords:  phraseological  unit,  phraseological  norm,  phraseological  innovation,
phraseological meaning, phraseological context, fictional text, pragmatic effect.
