Information on the thesis

The research is devoted to theoretical and practical aspects of bilateral trade relations development between Ukraine and PRC under the influence of modern globalization processes.

Basic trends in international trade collaboration of two countries have been outlined, the existing tendencies and problems of bilateral trade development and means of its optimization and have been defined. Various indicators and indices of evaluation of international trade were used to determine the intensity, optimality and expediency of existing trade relations and influence of exiting trade with PRC on Ukraine’s foreign trade economic security.

In the research quantitative analysis of commodities trade was conducted, using decomposition method levels of diversity and quality of bilateral trade flows was estimated. Dominating tendencies of development of international trade between Ukraine and PRC were highlighted. Ways of avoiding and minimizing dependence of Ukraine on trade with PRC were outlined and recommendations provided. The measure of competitive advantages of domestic commodities on global market compared to commodities produced by PRC manufacturers was elicited, similarity between export profiles of Ukraine and PRC was measured, the possibility of competition on major global markets was calculated, and the comparison of competitive advantages of major commodity groups was conducted. Certain branches of trade with growing level of possible competition were outlined. Possible actions to prevent and avoid severe competition were proposed.

Additionally, foundations of Chinese theory of international relations have been considered, differences between Chinese and classical Western concepts of international interactions were highlighted. Existing hierarchy of PRC’s strategic partnership was analyzed. By calculating comprehensive national power index Ukraine’s position among strategic partners of PRC was outlined. Prognosis for further development of international relations between Ukraine and PRC was provided.

Using the index method the average state of foreign trade security was measured when conducting trade with major partners in Pacific Rim region, the position of PRC among those partners was defined. Main threats to Ukraine’s economic security related to growing trade with PRC was discovered. Based on the institutional analysis of external trade security of Ukraine’s and PRC bilateral trade it was discovered that several factors are affecting the effectiveness of partnership, among them: cultural, language, administrative and geopolitical factors. At the same time, it was proved that Ukraine’s participation in infrastructural projects of PRC, namely «New Silk Road» project and modernization of Ukraine’s foreign trade strategy of partnership with PRC will allow to decrease negative consequences of developing and expansion of trade with PRC and will allow to optimize positive aspects of cooperation. Participation in «New Silk Road» will minimize risks and optimize trade with PRC by creating several new sea and land routes integrated in the single mega regional infrastructural system. To evaluate the possibility and economic impact of participation in named project infrastructural and logistic potential of Ukraine regions and metropolitan areas were considered and various means of its improvement proposed.

The thesis contains recommendations for improvement of bilateral relations and mechanisms of conduction of bilateral trade, evaluation if prognosis form was conduc­ted on the matter of structure and values of bilateral trade between Ukraine and PRC.
