The research papers defense as a part of a joint double degree master’s program with Vilnius University has taken place

On January 19, 2021, the Faculty of International Relations held a regular online meeting of the Examination Commission for the master’s theses defense as a part of a joint English-language master’s program of double degrees in “International and European Law” with Vilnius University (Lithuania). The meeting was held with the help of MS Teams software.

The chairman of the examination commission for the master’s theses defense is Doctor of Law, Professor, Head of the European Law Department, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Relations of Ivan Franko Lviv National university Mykhailo Mykievych, the Examination Commission Secretary –  Ingrida Rabachauskayte (Ingrida Rabačiauskaitė) (Lithuania). The commission also includes Doctor of Law, Professor of International Law at Lviv University Vitaliy Gutnyk, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University Dr. Tomas Davulis, Candidate of Law, Lecturer at the Private Law Department of Vilnius University Victor Terekhov, Professor, Dr. Rimantas Simaitis (Lithuania).

Under the scope of the project, such joint defenses take place by turns in Lviv and Vilnius. However, due to the quarantine situation, the current event was held online. The master’s program graduates from Lviv prepared their research on current issues of international and European law, in particular, in the field of EU corporate law and EU tax law, research on the legal consequences of Brexit. This issue is extremely relevant for Ukraine, so future international lawyers with their works will make a significant contribution to the Ukraine’s European integration course implementation.

The students brilliantly defended their works, successfully answering the questions asked by the commission members. It is worth noting that during the final grades discussion, Lithuanian professors remarked the high level of training of Lviv University students as well as their significant interest in the program and learning outcomes.

After the defense, the students thanked for the opportunity to participate in the program, which significantly increased the level of knowledge in international law and EU law as well as in professional English. It also contributed to potential employment. The next master’s theses defense should take place in Lviv, hopefully, in an offline format.

Taking this opportunity, Professor Mykhailo Mykyievych invited our Lithuanian friends for the Lviv University 360th anniversary celebration, which will take place in October thisyear. They gladly accepted the invitation. So we are looking forward to meeting our guests and hope for the rewarding continuation of the partnership with Vilnius University.
