Accumulated  the  theoretical  and  methodological  approaches  to  the  study  of
sustainable rural development defined in a constructive geography and related sciences,
defined the content of the basic terms, examined the basic methods of constructive
geographical  and  improved  methods  of  research  aimed  at  the  implementation  of
sustainable rural development.
Assessed the potential of the natural resources of rural areas Ivano-Frankivsk
oblast from the point of view of using it to realize the sustainable development of
rural areas. The classification of land was realized with the degree of their suitability
to carry out the management of agricultural and forestry (separated seven classes of
land). Analysis of the other components of natural resources gives grounds to say
that  prospective  for  the  region,  especially  in  mountainous  areas,  are  tourist  and
recreational activities. Established the spatial parameters of settlement in the studied
region,  which  has  developed  under  the  influence  of  natural  and  socio-economic
factors. Analyzed the negative influence of depopulation and aging on development
of the potential labor force in rural areas. Researched the effects of the influence the
nature exploitation on the condition of the environment in the region, the degree of
anthropogenic transformation of landscape systems.
The application of criteria for the selection the integrated indicators of achievement
the  sustainable  rural  development  allowed  us  to  deduce  the  empirical  formula  for
calculation the development of the potential use of natural resources, the index of
socio-demographic and workforce potential, indicator of the ecological status of the area
and integrated indicator realization of the potential the sustainable development in
rural areas. On the base of elaborated methods substantiated the ways of implementation
the sustainable rural development within the taxonomic natural-agricultural areas.
