The academic semester has started at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv

For almost a year, Ukraine has been trying to live and fully function in the conditions of war. Lviv University is no exception: remembering its main– educational and scientific – mission, our Alma Mater opened its doors to students: on February 14, 2023, and the educational process started at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

Following Rector’s Order No. 5784 of December 30, 2022, students will be educated in mixed and distance learning formats. Yes, students of the BA “Bachelor” (years 1-4) will study in a mixed format until June 4. Also, until June 4, but in a distance format, first-year master’s students will be studying. Instead, the academic semester for students of the “Master’s” OR (2nd year, 1.9 years) will last until May 17, 2023 – also in a distance format.

Mykola Speresenko, the head of the primary trade union organization of students of the University, is convinced that this format of education allows not only ensures the quality of the educational process but also guarantees the safety of students studying full-time. “Today, our students at our native Alma Mater can feel safe and at home, as our University managed to equip shelters in all educational buildings and dormitories in a short time, find the necessary generators and technical support, and open invincibility points,” says Mykola Speresenko. – Practical and laboratory classes in face-to-face format allow you to acquire the necessary professional competencies, establish effective interaction between students and teachers, acquire the necessary soft skills offered by the university environment, and most importantly – the socialization of the student’s personality and the formation of the student’s civic identity. We take an active part in public life, develop and study well, thereby strengthening the potential of the country in such a difficult time.”

All educational buildings of Lviv University must be equipped with the simplest shelters to ensure the safest conditions for obtaining an education. Among the latest achievements in this area is the arrangement and adaptation of the basement premises in the University building on Fredra Street for the simplest shelters, which will make it possible to expand the educational opportunities of students of the Faculty of Culture and Arts, as well as allow the University Chess Club to hold classes and tournaments.

Also, the staff of the University makes maximum efforts to ensure the uninterrupted educational and scientific process in the conditions of problems related to the energy system of Ukraine. For example, the buildings of the University, which have boiler rooms, are equipped with generators of various capacities, which allows you to continue studying comfortably in conditions of power outages.

“Although we have been living in war conditions for almost a year, the quality of the educational process remains a key priority of the University’s activities. At the same time, the University approaches the issue of the safety of all participants in the educational process with great responsibility. Today, new challenges are facing us, which, I am convinced, we will overcome together because, in addition to studying and working, we all provide a reliable rear for our Defenders”, – shares the first vice-rector of the University Andriy Gukalyuk.

We wish all our students a successful start to the academic semester, learn new skills and achieve all planned goals because educated citizens are the beauty of Motherland.
