Volodymyr Mykhailovych (19 July 1940, the village of Pidlyptsi, Zolochiv District, Lviv Oblast) – economist, Candidate of Economic Sciences (Some tasks of optimal capacity utilization in construction production, 1972), Associate Professor (1973), Doctor of Economic Sciences (Modeling and optimization of construction production management, 1993), Professor (1999). He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (1963). He worked as software engineer in 1963; became a researcher at the Computing Center of the University of Lviv in 1965; headed the initiative group for the creation of the Computing Center of Lviv Railways in 1965-67; Head the computing laboratory of the Faculty of Economics in 1967-68; Assistant Lecturer in 1968; Senior Lecturer in 1969-1973, Associate Professor in 1973-99; since 1994 Professor, in 1983–87, since 1992 Head of the Department of Economic Cybernetics; Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in 1976-1983, Director of the Chervonohrad branch of the Faculty of Economics in 1999-2004.
Research interests: economic and mathematical modeling in the management of economic and production systems; founded a scientific school in this field; developed a coordinate method for modeling the implementation of a complex project in construction, method of solving the transport problem with fixed surcharges.
Vovk Volodymyr Mykhailovych is the author of about 140 works, among which Mathematical methods in the planning of industrial enterprises (Lviv, 1979); Optimization of the use of production capacity of the construction organization (Kyiv, 1992); Tasks of construction production’s optimal planning (Kyiv, 1991); Matrix economic models (Kyiv, 1991); Fundamentals of system analysis (Lviv, 2002; et al.); Economic Cybernetics Vol.1,2 (Dnipro, 2005; with co-auth.); Mathematical methods of operations research in economic and production systems ( Lviv, 2007); Macroeconomic policy in Ukraine: problems of science and practice (Kharkiv, 2007; with co-auth.).
Member of the Methodical Council of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR on economic cybernetics; Deputy Chairman of the Methodical Commission on economic cybernetics of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (since 1995). Honorary Professor of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (2005).
